Colorectal/Stoma Care Department
Maggie Soulsby advised that her department now had a replacement secretary and two nurses had been appointed to replace Annetta and Lin.

Pampering Day
“Feel Good Days” were available to lift the spirits of breast cancer patients but at present there was nothing for those affected by bowel cancer. Earlier attempts to arrange something similar for bowel cancer had not been successful. During discussion it was proposed by Maggie that in the New Year we look at the possibility of setting up a “Pampering Day”. It was agreed that this was a good idea and members were asked to think about what they would like to see included our January 2008 meeting will discuss members ideas.

Public Liability Insurance
The group discussed the issue of Public Liability Insurance that had been raised by the query from the Reading Bowel Cancer Support Group. There were two aspects to consider (a) our meetings at St Margaret’s and (b) events organised by the group at which members of the public would be present.
(a) As our meetings are held at St Margaret’s Hospice we are visitors or guests on their premises so Rowland had made the assumption that we would be covered by the Hospice in the event that group members suffered an injury whilst on the Hospice premises. Action: Rowland to confirm with St Margaret’s. Post meeting note: Rowland has sent an e-mail to St Margaret’s requesting them to advise whether the above assumption is valid.
(b) If the group organises events open to the general public the question of appropriate insurance cover has to be considered on an event by event basis. As long as the “venue” has public liability insurance covering the proposed type of event the group should be covered. When planning future events this topic must be included in the agenda.
