Minutes of the 21st Colorectal Cancer Patient Support Group held on Friday 18 April 2008 at St Margaret’s in Yeovil

Rowland welcomed members to our 21st meeting. There were no new members at this meeting.
Matters Arising
Travel Insurance – Rowland advised he would cover this topic in the guest speaker slot.
Social Meal 16th April at the Sparkford Inn – we had very good support for this social evening with 20 places being booked. There was one late cancellation so we ended up with 19 present which speaks well of members commitment to the group and each other. The social part of the evening was fine, however due to misunderstandings by some of us and the Sparkford Inn, the meal part of the evening was disappointing too say the least. Some members did not receive what they had ordered and the time lapse between the first people receiving their meal and the last to be served was in excess of half an hour. This delay led to the gravy and vegetables for those served towards the end being cold. Members agreed that despite this the evening was a success “the company was great and the beer was good”.

April 2008 Bowel Cancer Awareness (BCA) Day: Maggie Soulsby has arranged a Bowel Cancer Awareness Day on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 10.00am to 2.00pm at the Wessex Suite, Westland Leisure Complex, Westbourne Close, Yeovil, BA20 2DD. Maggie said there would be displays covering:

The Patient Journey
Healthy Living for Prevention
Bowel Cancer Screening
Colon-aid Yeovil District Bowel Cancer Support Group
There will be a selection of healthy food items on display for visitors to sample.
A series of presentations will be given between 11.00am and 1.00pm.
There will also be a raffle with prizes. Debra was thanked for her efforts in persuading local shops and businesses to contribute prizes.
