First Meeting
The Colorectal/Stoma Care Department of Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust organised a meeting for people interested in a Support Group for patients who have had a diagnosis of colorectal cancer more generally known as Bowel Cancer.

The meeting on Thursday 3rd August 2006 at St Margaret’s Hospice in Yeovil was well attended by patients and carers with full support from the Colorectal/Stoma Care Department and two Consultants from the YDH surgical team. Also present were visitors from Taunton who were in the process of establishing a Somerset Support Group. They shared with us their vision of a County wide group with charity status and fund raising activities that could provide an umbrella organisation that local groups or individuals might join. This Taunton group have now formed the Somerset Colorectal Cancer Support Group (SCCSG) with registered charity status their web site is http://www.somersetbowelcancer.org.uk

Following this presentation there appeared to be a consensus for our group to be local and focused on support issues for patients and carers. It was agreed to have a follow up meeting to review the way forward for a local group at 2.0pm on Friday the 8th September at St Margaret’s Hospice, Yeovil.
