no improvement my doctor spoke to Mrs Finch-Jones and I was re-admitted to the BRI, on Friday 21st April, for them to decide how to remove the fluid from my lungs. On Monday I was sent home with another course of antibiotics. This time the treatment worked and I was re-admitted to the BRI on 12th May for Mr Morgan to remove the growths from my lung. On 15th May I had the operation and this time all went well. Mr Morgan was able to remove the growths without removing any useful part of my lung  and 2 days later I had all the drains and tubes removed and on  the 20th I was discharged.
On 27th July 2006 I had a CT scan at YDH and on 2nd August I saw Dr Genton (at Dr Falk’s clinic ) and he was clearly delighted to tell me that there was now no trace of anything amiss. I am of course still being checked and on 5th March 2007 I saw Dr Falk for the results from a CT scan in February and he was pleased to be able to tell me that all was clear. The next scan will be in September 2007.
The foregoing is a fairly detailed and probably boring account of my medical history over the past 4 years. The important things to tell you are firstly that throughout I had the total support of my wife, Ann, who attended every meeting with me, drove me numerous times to Bristol, visited me in hospital, cared for me and kept in touch with friends. Also we had enormous support from all at St John’s Church, Yeovil (with particular mention of Rev. Ed Bangay who seemed to arrive on the doorstep every Monday afternoon when I was home). I feel very humble at the number of our friends who were clearly very concerned and prayed for us. I have to say that I shared my burden by telling everyone of my illness. It was my way of coping with it. There were times when I was worried but mostly I was able to get on with life until the next treatment or operation. I have endeavoured to keep fairly fit by walking for at least 15 minutes everyday and occasionally walking 5 miles or so and on one notable occasion walking 11 miles one day and 6 miles the next. I have tried to be positive about life and count my blessings. I feel myself very fortunate in the treatment I have received at YDH/BRI  BRI.
